AT THE SLEEP CLINIC SLEEP MEDICINE IS A CLINICAL ART.
At the Sleep Clinic we believe that sleep medicine is a clinical art. We believe that any studies that need to be done have to be based on each patient's condition and not by a boiler plate approach as we see elsewhere.
A clinical history is imperative as is an exam. Most patients end up being seen in consultation by the Medical director, after which the appropriate diagnostic protocols are initiated.
If the patient is referred by another physician strictly for a sleep study this information is obtained from that physician and is reviewed ahead of time. The appropriate diagnostic procedures are scheduled in communication with the referring physician.
THE SLEEP CLINIC PROVIDES A FULLTIME, EXPERIENCED MEDICAL DIRECTOR BOARD CERTIFIED IN SLEEP MEDICINE.
Sleep medicine is not a specialty that can be practiced on a part time basis, while dedicating most of the time on the main interests of Neurology, Pulmonology, ENT, Internal Medicine or any other specialty.
Sleep Medicine is a distinct, complex and rapidly evolving medical specialty that requires special training and expertise. Certification by the American Board of Sleep Medicine is essential as is the commitment to dedicate one's professional career to the field.
The Center's Medical Director, Nabil A. Moufarrej MD, has over 25 years of sleep medicine experience. He is dually board certified in neurology and sleep medicine and was one of the first physicians in this region to be certified in Sleep Medicine.
After being the medical director of Willis Knighton Neurodiagnostic center and sleep laboratory, Dr. Moufarrej established The Sleep Clinic in 1993. He has served in various professional organizations and was among the founding members and the first president of The Loiuisiana Sleep Society ( now the Louisiana Academy of Sleep Medicine).
Dr. Moufarrej has given invited talks at various locations in the United States, and internationally and has participated in several research projects.

Dr, Moufarrej's primary interest and passion remains the caring for his patients utilizing the most advanced and comprehensive clinical tools, and obtaining quality patient outcomes.

Additionally the newest therapeutic modalities are implemented at our center as soon as they become available.
THE SLEEP CLINIC PROVIDES PROMPT REPORTING AND TREATMENT.
The prompt completion of testing and initiation of treatment, as well as good treatment compliance are the essential cornerstone of good medicine. this is especially true of the management of sleep apnea. Delays in the completion of testing, inadequate treatment, and the lack of prompt initiation of the appropriate treatment puts the patients at increased risk of accidents and medical problems that could have been and should have been avoided.
The Sleep Clinic provides diagnosis, treatment recommendations and analyzed reports within 24-72 hours in most instances. Patients with severe conditions may even receive the treatment the day of their testing if orders are received and insurance companies give authorization.
Since we believe in our patients' comfort, in addition to prompt appointments our patients rarely have to wait long to be seen.
THE SLEEP CLINIC PROVIDES INTENSE PATIENT EDUCATION AND FOLLOW UP.
The diagnosis and the treatment of sleep disorders requires intensive patient as well as family education. This education along with the support we offer to our patients leads to prompt resolution of problems and improved compliance.
A structured follow up program that is designed based on the patient's needs and response to treatment is routinely implemented to ensure the best outcome for our patients. We encourage our patients, and actually insist, that they call us for any problems as soon as they encounter them. If this cannot be resolved over the telephone, we are always available to see the patients.
THE SLEEP CLINIC OFFERS A CAREFULLY DESIGNED COMFORTABLE SETTING.
The Sleep Clinic provides four large recording bedrooms linked to a central control station for monitoring. Every room has intercom communication with the technologists. Low-illumination infrared video cameras discretely monitor patients activities. The technologist is fully aware of what is happening to the patient and immediately able to intervene or provide assistance when indicated. The facility also includes bath and shower facilities.
THE SLEEP CLINIC HAS A STRINGENT QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM.
The quality assurance program at the Sleep Clinic ensures that we offer the best care for our patients.
